While the economy has expanded considerably last year, the small and medium business in the country is still stepping on their toes. The fact is that Bulgaria has thousands of small companies and a few large companies, thanks to that open new jobs and reducing unemployment.
According to the survey of Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), the country remains one of the lowest levels of entrepreneurial activity in the EU, but last year we noted some growth. The results were compared with 2015. and show that slightly more people have started their own business in 2016.
The chart ranks 65 countries in the index of entrepreneurial activity and Bulgaria occupies the 62nd position. This means that the only year we climbed two places. 4.8% of the Bulgarians in the country aged between 18 and 64 years, have established or are in the process of creating a business last year. Entrepreneurial activity below 5% was observed in large economies such as Germany and Italy.
GEM study shows that in addition to increasing activity among entrepreneurs is observed and growth of companies that are active over three years. One fifth of our compatriots do see good opportunities for starting a business. This is a much smaller share compared to other countries within the ranking of GEM. The global report shows that more than 42% of the adult population is considering or has already started a business. In Europe, however, this percentage is significantly lower.
About 22% of respondents in 65 countries said that they plan to start a business in the next three years. In our country share the entrepreneurial spirit is much smaller. Reduces the percentage of people who believe that launching a business is a good career choice - 52.9% compared to 57.5% in 2015. The most positive attitudes towards entrepreneurship in all criteria are observed in Africa.
